Este último cruzó los Pirineos y los Alpes con cerca de cincuenta mil hombres. Los ejércitos romanos fueron aplastados en Trebia en 218 AC, en el lago Trasimene en 217 AC y en Cannes en 216 AC En 212 DC, Aníbal tomó Taranto y reunió a las ciudades del sur de Italia. 211 AC marca una victoria romana en Capua..
