In the early 860s, the Byzantine Emperor Michael III delegated a Byzantine Mission to Bohemia and Moravia, composed of two brothers, Cyril and Methodius. The mission's goal was the evangelization of the Slavic peoples and the establishment of an Eastern Rite Church.
