Comentario
Specimen par perforation horizontale et numérotation O.0 /000 sur papier filigrané. Ce billet devrait en réalité être classé avant le n°605 mais il n'était pas connu du Dr. Kolsky au moment de la rédaction du KM, en effet il porte la mention "Le Directeur" et non pas "l'Admr-Directeur". Étudié par le Dr. Kolsky dans le Trésor du Ministère des Colonies après la publication de la seconde édition de son ouvrage sur la Banque de l'Indochine. Il porte dans la marge haute, au crayon, "1908 - 1909".

This note should actually be classified before No. 605 but it was not known to Dr. Kolsky at the time of writing the KM, in fact it bears the mention \\\"The Director\\\" and not \\\"the Admr-Director\\\". Studied by Dr. Kolsky in the Treasury of the Ministry of Colonies after the publication of the second edition of his work on the Bank of Indochina. It bears in the upper margin, in pencil, \\\"1908 - 1909\\\"

La apertura del Canal de Suez otorgó al Golfo de Adén una importancia estratégica inigualable a la salida del Mar Rojo. Los ingleses controlaron Adén, los franceses compraron Obock en 1862 mientras los armadores de Marsella se establecieron en Tadjoura. En 1884, se aprobó un protectorado francés con los potentados locales. Lo mismo se hizo con los jefes somalíes. El Coronel Lagarde fundó Djibouti en 1888. La capital fue trasladada en 1891 de Obock a Djibouti. Teniendo estatus de colonia en 1894, la región tomó el nombre de Côte Française des Somalis en 1896.
