Comentario

Appointed as a counselor to the Parliament, he showed so much energy against the corrupt and the prevaricators that he was soon appointed by King Henry II as President of the Parliament and Chancellor of Marguerite de Valois. His zeal was exercised in a strict surveillance of the collection and use of taxes as well as the control of unjustified expenses. Favorable to religious tolerance, he nevertheless created in the midst of the civil war the institution of Judges and Consuls, responsible for regulating trade and, rejected by the Court and the Parliament for his moderation, he died of grief a few months after Saint Bartholomew's Day.
