A large article of about twenty pages is online “Private boarding schools and secondary institutions for boys in the Paris region (1700-1940)” at “http://histoire-education. magazines. org/839 . He sheds light on the role of boarding school master “The boarding school masters then belong to two official categories: the permit holders of the cantor (dignity of the chapter of Notre-Dame which has supervision of the schools), limited to twenty in number; after a quarrel with the University at the end of the 17th century, they obtained the right to hold a boarding school on condition that they had obtained a mastery of arts and that they settled exclusively in the suburbs; and the masters approved by the University. The latter, repetitive pedagogues who were members of the Faculty of Arts, considering themselves victims of the competition exerted by the permit holders of the cantor, appealed to the University which, in 1708, had a statute approved under the terms of which repetitive boarding masters who had obtained a Master of Arts degree had to, in order to establish themselves, have their capacity and morals recognized by the University and remain subject to the inspection of the Rector.. \\\"They are professor directors
