Saint Roch (Montpellier, vers 1340 - Voghera, 1379) (Sant Ròc en occitan) est honoré le 16 août. Il est le patron des pélerins et de nombreuses confréries ou corporations : chirurgiens, apothicaires, paveurs de rues, fourreurs, pelletiers, fripiers, cardeurs, et aussi le protecteur des animaux. Son culte, très populaire, s'est répandu dans le monde entier.
Le chien qui l’accompagne toujours tient dans sa gueule un pain. Le saint étant mourant de la peste dans une forêt il fut nourrit ainsi jusqu’au moment où le maître du chien, intrigué par le manège de celui-ci, le suivit et s’occupa de Saint Roch.
