Théodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) est le 26e président des États-Unis d’Amérique. Après des études universitaires, il part fonder un ranch dans le Dakota du Nord, Revenu à New York, il se lance dans la politique. En 1897, il est nommé par le président McKinley secrétaire adjoint à la marine. Faucon partisan de l’interventionnisme, il y prépare la guerre contre l’Espagne. Quand la guerre éclate en 1898, il se porte volontaire pour combattre à Cuba. Il s’y illustre à la tête du régiment de volontaires des Rough Riders. Après la rapide victoire américaine, il revient à New York en héros. Aux élections de 1900, il est élu sur le ticket républicain devenant le vice-président de William McKinley. Suite à l’assassinat de ce dernier par un anarchiste, Théodore Roosevelt est investi le 14 septembre 1901. Il est largement élu en 1904 mais ne se représente pas en 1908. Il reçoit le prix nobel de la paix en 1906 pour sa médiation dans le conflit russo-japonais. Lors de la Première Guerre Mondiale, il reproche à Woodrow Wilson sa neutralité. Suite à une anecdote avec un ours, il est indirectement à l’origine de l’ours en peluche, le Teddy Bear !

He distinguished himself there at the head of the Rough Riders volunteer regiment.. After the quick American victory, he returned to New York as a hero.. In the 1900 election, he was elected on the Republican ticket, becoming William McKinley's vice president.. Following the latter's assassination by an anarchist, Theodore Roosevelt was sworn in on September 14, 1901.. He was widely elected in 1904 but did not stand again in 1908.. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for his mediation in the Russo-Japanese conflict.. During the First World War, he criticized Woodrow Wilson for his neutrality.
