Beau petit denier, frappé sur un flan un peu court, mais avec les types centrés et presque complets. Les légendes sont particulièrement bien venues. Épaisse patine grise, avec des reflets bruns par endroits

Comentario

Deux types de deniers sont connus pour ce monétaire MEROBAVDES. Le Belfort n° 6419 (= Prou 2353 bis) porte le nom de l’atelier SCI MAXENCIO en entier au droit et le nom du monétaire MEROBAVDEM au revers alors que le Belfort n° 4029 (= Prou 2346) a MCROBAVDE M au droit et RACIO SCI MAXC au revers. Chacun de ces types n’est connu qu’à un exemplaire (tous deux conservés à la BN).
Notre denier est donc le second exemplaire connu, et le seul en mains privées.
Two types of denarii are known for this MEROBAVDES coin. Belfort No. 6419 (= Prou 2353 bis) bears the name of the mint SCI MAXENCIO in full on the obverse and the name of the mint MEROBAVDEM on the reverse, while Belfort No. 4029 (= Prou 2346) has MCROBAVDE M on the obverse and RACIO SCI MAXC on the reverse. Each of these types is known from only one example (both preserved at the National Library). Our denarius is therefore the second known example, and the only one in private hands.
