Dissoute en mars 1889, la ligue renaît en 1897 avant que n'éclate l'affaire Dreyfus. Elle reconquiert Paris dans le camp des antidreyfusards mais demeure néanmoins affaiblie. Elle développe donc un militarisme et un patriotisme.
