Ce jeton est d’une frappe postérieure à 1665 mais déjà ancienne et ne porte pas de poinçon.
Théophraste Renaudot, né en 1586 à Loudun (actuel département de la Vienne) et mort le 25 octobre 1653 à Paris est un journaliste, médecin et philanthrope français. Il est le fondateur de la publicité et de la presse française par ses deux créations du Bureau d'adresse (1629) et de la Gazette, journal hebdomadaire (30 mai 1631). Il est exceptionnel qu’un jeton porte le portrait du personnage et c’est probablement la tradition médicale des doyens qui est reprise ici.

LA PRESSE
La imprenta nació en el siglo XVII gracias a la imprenta y al desarrollo de las comunicaciones. En 1631, Théophraste Renaudot lanzó su gaceta semanal llamada "Gazette de France" inicialmente protegida por Richelieu. El primer diario francés apareció en 1771 pero el gran desarrollo de la prensa tuvo lugar durante la revolución (350 títulos aparecidos en 1789). Sofocada bajo Napoleón I, la prensa revivió y se hizo popular bajo Luis Felipe I, cuando aparecieron las novelas por entregas. En 1868, una ley liberal sobre la prensa permitió la aparición de muchos títulos, algunos de los cuales aún existen (Le Temps luego se convirtió en Le Monde o Le Figaro).
