Exemplaire sur un flan légèrement ovale. Très beau portrait. Revers de style fin et de haut relief où tous les détails du héros sont visibles. Exemplaire recouvert d’une fine patine grise, mettant en valeur les reliefs

Trace de double frappe décalée devant le visage qui donne l’impression d’une paille. Notre statère appartient au premier groupe du monnayage opontien avec le serpent ornant le bouclier.

Oponte fue la capital de Opontian Locrid. Se dice que fue fundada por Opous. Era la patria de Patroclo y Ajax, hijo de Oileus. Los opontianos lucharon con Leónidas en las Termópilas. Los locrios experimentaron su mayor expansión a partir de la Paz de Antálcidas en el 386 a. C. Después de la victoria de Felipe II en Queronea en el 338 a. C., los locrios cayeron bajo el dominio macedonio..
