Duque de Sajonia desde 912, fue en 918 cuando Conrado I lo nombró sucesor. En 919, Lorena se integró en el Imperio. Henry sufrió una parálisis en 935 y murió al año siguiente. Su hijo, Othon, unirá Alemania e Italia y estará en el origen del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico..
