Comentario
La datation repose sur le trésor de Drama (IGCH. 404). Ce type avec la tête à gauche semble beaucoup plus rare. Pour O. Hoover ce type a pu aussi être fabriqué après la mort du roi jusqu’en 294 avant J.-C. Le style du portrait est complètement différent des autres émissions au nom de Philippe. Ce type avec la tête de lion sous le cheval pourrait avoir été frappé à Lysimacheia en Thrace par Lysimaque.

Filipo de Macedonia era hermano de Pérdicas III (365-359 a. C.), ambos hijos de Amintas III (381-369 a. C.). Su hermano mayor, Alejandro II, fue asesinado por Ptolomeo, quien recibió la regencia de Pérdicas III y Felipe II (369-365 a. C.). Ptolomeo finalmente fue asesinado por Felipe II en el 365 a. C., mientras que su hermano murió luchando contra los ilirios seis años después. Felipe II inició la conquista del mundo griego a partir del 357 a. C. Fue enemigo infatigable de Atenas y Demóstenes.
