Paul Ier (1754-1801), le fils de Catherine II et de Pierre III, succéda à sa mère en 1796. Il fut le père d'Alexandre Ier, de Constantin et de Nicolas Ier. Il fut assassiné, peut-être à l'instigation de son fils aîné qui lui succéda.
