Exemplaire sur un flan extrêmement large, bien centré. Très beau portrait énigmatique. Frappe molle et faible au revers. Flan piqué et corrodé. A été nettoyé

Comentario
Semble complètement inédit et non répertorié. Manque à tous les ouvrages consultés. De la plus grande rareté. Le portrait fait penser à ceux de la série III, pour l’atelier d’Ecbatane (SNG Spaer n° 769-77 = ESM. 604 à 608). Mais le revers ne correspond absolument pas et malgré nos recherches dans l’ouvrage d’Houghton et de Lorber, nous n’avons pas retrouvé trace de ce type de tétradrachme. Nous avons certainement affaire à un atelier secondaire, situé dans cette région.

The portrait is reminiscent of those in series III, for the Ecbatana mint (SNG Spaer no. 769-77 = ESM. 604 to 608). SIRIA - REINO DE SIRIA - ANTIOCOS III EL GRANDE
(223-187 a. C.)
Antíoco III, segundo hijo de Seleuco II, sucedió a su hermano Seleuco III en el 223 a. C. Primero tuvo que sofocar la revuelta de Molón, un sátrapa de Media que se había sublevado y fue eliminado recién en el 220 a. mando militar de Asia Menor a su tío Aqueo, este último se sublevó y Antíoco no superó la revuelta hasta después de la captura de Sardis en 214 aC.-C. El usurpador decapitado, luego restauró el poder seléucida en Partia y Bactria. Después de que Felipe V fuera derrotado en Cynoscephali y acogiera al exiliado Aníbal, se convirtió en un enemigo implacable de los romanos. Tras una primera serie de victorias, fue finalmente derrotado en las Termópilas y Magnesia en el 189 aC Tuvo que firmar la Paz de Apamea al año siguiente, consagrando la hegemonía romana y el fin de la dominación seléucida en Asia Menor, dejando a Pérgamo como árbitro de la situación. Fue asesinado en 187 a.C..
