L’interdiction de la représentation de l’homme et des animaux valorise grandement l’écriture, d’autant plus que le Coran dit explicitement que l’art d’écrire est d’essence divine (sourate 96, verset 4). Les inscriptions ont donc à la fois une fonction de prosélytisme religieux et un rôle esthétique.

Este es el período fundamental para el territorio andaluz, origen del período musulmán en territorio ibérico, hasta ahora dominado por los visigodos. Los musulmanes crearon su capital en Córdoba y se sucedieron 21 gobernadores hasta que el territorio se convirtió en emirato independiente en el año 756, bajo el reinado de Abd al-Rahman.
